Hi everyone

THE POWER OF FLOWER
For the next 6 weeks our school will be having a science focus for inquiry. As a class, we will be looking at flowers under the heading 'The Power Of Flowers'. This is interesting, because we will not only look at flowers, but also fruit, how it gets to form, why are they sweet, why they are so colourful, etc.
Before we started to look at flowers and some interesting facts about it, we looked at the SCIENCE CAPABILITIES AS AN INQUIRY CYCLE. The Science  Capabilities and the NATURE OF SCIENCE is our focus to find and gather data - have a look at the NZC link below to find some more information about what science is all about. The New Zealand Curriculum
We started our science with a simple experiment although it's not connected to plants, but because the capabilities can be explained easily using this experiment - HEAT TRANSFER so we can identify the following information as part of our inquiry:
1. WHAT WE NOTICE - OBSERVATIONS
2. WHAT WE THINK - INFERENCE
3. WHAT WE WONDER - ANY QUESTIONS
The students found the interesting and came up with some outstanding questions about this activity. This task set them up well for the flower science inquiry we started with this week. As we go along, we will be putting some more information on the blog, so watch this space.
