Room 10 Science In Action
VOLCANOES
Hypothesis: Is it possible for volcanoes to happen anywhere on Earth?
Our class came up with this question and the students completed different activities to find the answer. We started of by working in groups to find coordinated of volcanoes from around the world. We found that 80% of the worlds volcanoes happens in an area in the Pacific Ocean called the Ring Of Fire. There are volcanoes in other parts of the world, but this is not a common occurrence. We also found out that New Zealand is part of the Ring Of Fire and that this might be one of the causes of the earthquakes in Christchurch and other parts of the country. We also marked the volcanoes on a globe because the earth is not flat (like on the coordinate sheets). This assisted us to better understand this phenomena.
